Physics Exploration | Coming November 2026
Heat flows. Waves travel. Light bends. None of it is random.
Thermodynamics, Waves & Optics is a self-paced exploration of the physics of energy in motion — and the surprisingly elegant rules that govern all of it.

Hold your hand near a campfire. You feel the heat before you touch the flame.
Drop a pebble in still water. The ripples reach the far side of the pond.
Look at a pencil through a glass of water. It appears to break at the surface.
What do heat, waves, and light have in common? They all involve energy moving — through matter, through space, through materials that slow it, bend it, or bounce it back.
Understanding how that movement works changes how you see almost everything.
Three phenomena. One underlying idea.
Thermodynamics, waves, and optics each look different on the surface. Thermodynamics is about heat and temperature — why things warm up, cool down, and why you can never quite get back to where you started. Waves are about disturbances that travel — sound, water, vibration, and the physics that lets music work. Optics is about light — how it reflects, refracts, and focuses, and why a simple lens can make the world look completely different.
What connects them: energy in motion. And the rules that govern all three are more consistent — and more elegant — than most textbooks suggest.
We don’t start with those rules. We start with what you can observe. Then we find the rules together.
What you’ll find inside the program
Thermodynamics, Waves & Optics is built on the Physics Thinking Method — Observe, Discuss, Investigate, Understand — and includes:
Demonstrations Heat transfer, wave behavior, and the things light does when it meets a new material — made visible and observable before they’re explained.
Lab Activities Experiments that make abstract behavior tangible. Why does sound travel through some materials and not others? What does a wave actually carry — and what stays behind?
Thought Labs The questions that stretch the model. What happens at the edges of the rules? Thought labs push reasoning beyond the textbook example into the territory where real understanding lives.
Guided Problem-Solving Worked examples built around reasoning, not formula-matching. You’ll see how a physicist approaches a thermodynamics or wave problem — and why the approach matters as much as the answer.
By the end of this exploration, you’ll understand…
- How heat moves through matter — and why some materials hold heat better than others
- What a wave actually is, and what travels when a wave does (hint: it’s not the water)
- Why light bends when it passes from one material to another — and how that makes lenses, glasses, and cameras work
- The basics of thermodynamics — including why energy always seems to be “running downhill”
- How to reason through wave and optics problems from observation, before reaching for an equation
